CRIME STOPPERS INTERNET COURSES BACK ONLINE

Crime Stoppers who have attempted to take the Crime Stoppers Basic Course and Campus Course online through the website of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) since late November were locked out because the website was taken down to install additional security features. As of January 10, 2008, the website, called POSEIT, is back online. Local program board members and/or coordinators who need to take the online course for certification purposes may now register at the following address: http://www.texas-poseit.org/Default.aspx?login=1 or go directly to the TCLEOSE website, www.tcleose.state.tx.us and click on the POSEIT link.

Programs with certifications that expire January 27, 2008, will be presented to the Texas Crime Stoppers Advisory Council for renewal when the Council meets February 8 in Laredo. All certification documents must be submitted to Council Director Betty Bosarge before February 1, including proof of training completion. If taking the Internet courses, either the Basic Course or the Campus Course, participants must register and will receive a "report card" upon completing the course; this paper provides the grade on the final examination. A copy of this report card will suffice to quickly prove that the training has been completed for those programs facing the recertification deadline; when the participant receives a Training Certificate from Texas State University-San Marcos, please mail the certificate to Dr. Bosarge for your program files.

The online courses each require about 12-14 hours of computer study time to complete and there should be sufficient time for those program participants who need to complete the training requirement to do so before February 1. In addition, the Advisory Council is offering an onsite Campus Crime Stoppers Basic Course in Laredo February 9-10, 2008. Registration information for this course is available on our Crime Stoppers website at Texas State University-San Marcos: http://www.thetexascrimestoppers.org. Programs with certification expiring January 27 that are sending board members and/or coordinators to the Laredo course in order to fulfill the certification training requirement should notify Dr. Bosarge when submitting their package of certification documents to her. Contact Dr. Bosarge at 512-463-1784 or bbosarge@governor.state.tx.us.

For more information, click on the link below to be taken to the training section of the state's website.
